As part of my continuing fascination with paper & part of my series ‘Paper Design,’ I began exploring handmade Japanese papers - as seen in the background of each of these still life photographs - their texture & their patterns really captivated me so I wanted to not just fold them but use them in different ways to help create my images.
I like to bring flowers home to add beauty to my homelife & I like to wait for them to die so I can arrange dead bouquets around my house. I love the jewel & softer tones dead leaves, petals & stems take on after senescence (See my series, Senescence in my portfolio to learn more about the death of plants).
I was arranging one of my dead bouquets when a few of the pedals hit the table-top in a seemingly arranged design & I was inspired. I had a collection of handmade papers & I was struck with an idea & this is the result.
Paper from @jpp Japanese Paper Place in Toronto, Canada.
