Services completed
Each photo has been carefully scanned to ensure a dust-free frame & has been saved as a high
resolution (600 DPI) archival scan. Photos identified for restoration were digitally restored to the
best possible version based on the assessed condition of the original photo, using photo editing
techniques colour correction, visible damage & aging effects (cracks, scratches) were removed
or fixed.

Approach to the Work
I assessed each photo for age, character & quality. I ascertained what was damage & what was photographic technique & limitations of the era. I also assessed paper type & quality. When possible, I carefully preserved & restored important characteristics of the print that was handed over to the original subjects when the photo was taken. This includes small quaint imperfections like smudged ink that makes of the wonderful frame for the Donald & Sadie photo. Some of the photo paper has more texture than modern glossy prints have, so when possible, I have preserved this texture. Some of the photos are in their frames off centre. This was a result of hand developing prints & sometime they came out less than straight. This is an important quality & speaks to the story & to the history of the photo, so I have left them as is. When possible, I have however rebuilt outer edges of several frames. Over time, they edges have worn away, so I have rebuilt them to original specs with a little bleed room for cropping when you decide to print.
I have left each back with their history. It was a creative choice that I feel serves on the back of the photo as a bit of a fingerprint of the history of the photo. I can easily restore the backs if you wish at no charge.
When possible, I have added a little extra room on the frames that make the photo slightly larger than the original photo. This is wiggle room for cropping needs a printer may have. I have scanned these photos at 600 dpi - 300 more dpi than the standard 300dpi. This is to maximize the quality but this does not mean you can enlarge past what we initially discussed. When needed these images can be 'downscaled' to 300 dpi.
Each photo has been scaled & positioned on this site for a 22-30 inch monitor. I have scaled each image to best reflect their original size & ideal viewing distance. You can click on each photo to inspect each image in detail to review the restoration work. Please remember when viewing larger images on this screen is for review & inspection purposes only & they are typically displaying larger than ideal for your viewing distance.
Reviewing on a tablet should work as well.
My monitors have been carefully calibrated to match the prints of your family photos & typical high end photo-printers. When viewing, please keep in mind some consumer monitors & screens are set to be brighter to help with sales, so images can look brighter than what is printed. I have inspected these images across a few different consumer monitors and they display within an acceptable variance. If you feel they are too bright, let's open a dialogue about your screen's settings first, before we get into any adjustments.
Please view these photos on a 1080p screen if possible. 4K screens carry more detail than a typical print. 1080p monitors more closely reflect what will be printed.
It was a true pleasure restoring your family photographs.
Revisions
Part of our service allows for you to request 1 round of small revisions that allow for minor readjustments & small healing in areas. If you require a few small adjustments please let my team know & I will get to work on those adjustments. These adjustments include minor exposure adjustments, or scratches, folds or dust you see that I have not seen
If you are happy with the restoration, please let us know & we will export the files to a USB stick & get them to you right away.
Final Note
I highly recommend for the first review, that you click on the 1st photo to enlarge it & then use the arrows to the left & right of the photos to create a manual slide show. They transition nicely from before to after.
Enjoy.

Group / Daniels Homestead (Photo 3)
Removed sepia tone aged colouring by converting to black & white.
Repaired rip/tears, removed scratches.
Cleaned up mat & framing
Improved focus & detail.
Comment: I improved / enhanced the overall photo where possible. I recommend reprinting
this photo close to the original size, I have however improved it for some enlargement.
I have been able to bring out details in the men's faces & with the little boy to a slightly less extent.
You can now identify the pinstriping in the suit on the left & well you can now see more clearly their
personalities.

Donald & Sadie (Photo 1)
Removed sepia tone aged colouring by converting to black & white.
Straightened framing, cleaned up the borders, removed scuff marks in photo, restored
structure where possible.
Improved detail and focus.
Comment: I improved / enhanced the overall photo where possible. I kept the quaint quality
of the border stamp, which includes smeared ink detail from the original, preserving the
authentic quality of the photo. All creases & frayed edges have been tidied up. This photo can
be enlarged somewhat, however I recommend keeping it as close to the original size as
possible because there is only so much original detail in the photo as a small keepsakes.
What is remarkable about this restoration is that you can now see Donald's expression more clearly &
you can see his personality more in his face.

James John & Elizabeth Kerr (Photo 5)
(original not provided, photocopy only & published version in book)
Both the photocopy & the book version were scanned for comparison.
Improvements were substantially limited due to rough nature of the original.
Removed big scratch in scan from book scan.
Comment: I recommend the “from book” scan as I have made any
enhancement where possible.
George & Isobel (Photo 7)
(original not provided, image from book/text message only)
Scanned from book, improved where possible
Comment: This photo was scanned from the book as it
provided a better option to work with
than the low resolution text message version.

of an already scanned original.

Comment: I improved / enhanced the overall photo where possible. I recommend reprinting
this photo close to the original size, however there is probably more leeway to enlarge this
one as it is better quality original.

Removed sepia tone aged colouring by converting to black & white.
Cleaned up photo borders, removed scratches, scuffs & creases.
Balanced the light leak on the right side of the photo.
Improved detail & focus.
Comment: I improved / enhanced the overall photo where possible. Often framing is off
centre or crooked, I have not straightened this photo restoration to preserve the quality &
character of the original photo. This photo can be enlarged somewhat, however I recommend
keeping it as close to the original size as possible because there is only so much original detail
in the photo.
